In 2007 we started a program to help the beggar children of Mumbai by enrolling a small test group as boarders in an Ashram school in their village of Sholapur…the results are encouraging and SBT looks forward to its growth as it addresses an often ignored and extremely difficult group who have been discriminated against since British times when they were criminalised.

Over the last 4 years our project also works with children who have been remanded into custody for begging or stealing by removing them from the remand home with the court's permission.  They are then brought to Sholapur and enrolled in the boarding school.  Visits during vacation back to Mumbai are supervised and the children are brought back to the school at the end of this period.

Outreach work has been extended to Pardhi families on the footpaths and includes Ration Cards and Governmental paperwork, birth control and operations.
